Education Scotland has published an update on its previous report on how schools are implementing the curriculum in relation to sciences.
The report makes interesting reading and clearly demonstrates many of the tensions around the development and implementation of the new approaches required by the curriculum.
In particular it highlights some of the issues parents have been concerned about: the narrowing of learning for example, and early presentation which continues to be an issue when the requirements of the Broad General Education are very clear and specific. While some youngsters may be working at a level where early presentation is a benefit, this should be an exception and not a rule.
For most young people, parents are looking for a clear understanding of what they are learning and what their children are achieving: the report indicates there is some way to go before all parents can be confident about the information they receive in relation to sciences.
